Of course, having some knowledge of indoor plants and knowing the basics of plant care is always good, however, it’s not totally necessary. Everything you need to know about indoor plants is covered in our training program. In addition, you will also receive pre-training material to study before you come to the actual 5-day training session located at our corporate headquarters. And, as the saying goes: Experience is the best teacher. Over time, as you continue to actually work with, and maintain, the plants you will develop a natural feel for how plants thrive in an indoor environment and what it takes to keep them looking healthy. A great advantage of being part of the Growing Roots™ Franchise is that you will always have a helping hand and support when you need it.
Learning about all these plants may seem like a daunting task. The good news is that there are only a select number of plants that thrive and do well in interior environments, so the learning curve for indoor plantscaping is much easier than exterior landscaping where there are thousands of plant options to choose from.
The start-up cost is very low compared to other franchise opportunities. The initial franchise fee is $15,000 and the total investment that includes working capital ranges from $25k on the low end - $45K on the high end.
We at Growing Roots™ are completely behind you and want to see you succeed, which is why we are extending 6 months of free royalty to new Franchisees. After the 6 month period, your royalty will be 4% of gross revenue or $150, whichever is greater. We also have a "National Advertising Fund," which requires 1% of gross revenue. The National Advertising Fund will only be used to further enhance the franchise system through advancements in things such as future Website Developments, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, etc. The National Advertising Fund will be held in a separate account.
As part of the Growing Roots franchise fee, the franchisee will be assigned an exclusive or protected territory to market and promote their business. The initial franchise fee will include a territory defined by zip codes and a population base of up to 300,000. Franchisees always have the option of purchasing more than one protected territory as long as the area is available.
When you first start out, you may be able to work your plant care business part-time while you are in the process of learning the business and laying the groundwork. As a Franchisee, you will have a support system to help you make your business a success, but you will eventually need to spend time networking with other businesses (such as business owners, hotel managers, Real Estate agents, Interior Decorators, etc.) in order to build your client base. Once your client base starts to grow, you will need to maintain your existing clients while managing your business and adding new clients. Eventually you will have to work at this full-time in order to grow a successful business.
Indoor plants are found in a wide variety of interior spaces such as restaurants, offices, lobbies, medical facilities, shopping malls, hotels, airports etc., which are all potential clients. A new franchisee will have to aggressively network in their business community and advertise and market locally in order to build their client base. Family, friends and old co-workers can all be a source of potential client referrals.
Being part of the Growing Roots franchise system, we will provide you with a list of vendors and catalogs for all of your product needs. Depending on your geographical location, you may have local suppliers close by that may be more convenient for you. We will help you determine the best source for your products depending on your location.
In most cases, you will not be required to store plants and containers, which make it a great home based business. When your clients make a request for products, you order as needed and deliver and install. However, some franchisee’s may be in an area where local plant providers are not as close by or convenient and may need to store some items in order to be more effective. Again, we will help you determine if this is a better option for you depending on your individual circumstances.
You will definitely need a van, SUV or truck of some kind. A small car will not work in transporting plants and containers very effectively. Right now, we do not have any specific requirements on vehicle types but it does need to be a type of vehicle that you can work with. The vehicle color is also important, as it needs to coordinate with the company logo. Colors such as white, tan, greens, yellows will all work. Whereas colors like red, blue, black will not look good with the company logo. We will work with you in determining what will work and what will be acceptable.
As far as special equipment, none will be required to start off with. All of the tools you will need to get started will be provided in your training. Once you start to grow and acquire some larger clients, you may consider purchasing a watering machine. Again, we will assist you in determining those needs and providing you with the proper vendors.
